Miguel Cotto’s Fans

On the 3rd of December 2011 Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto will meet in Madison Square Garden in New York for the Boxing Super Welterweight WBA World Championship.  This is set to be an epic fight between two very famous boxers, who each have a very specific fan base.  Margarito has a group of hard core fans, who have stuck by him through controversies over allegations that he had rigged his match against Mosley by lacing his hand bandages with plaster.  Cotto, however, is a real superstar, who attracts many new – and young – fans on a daily basis.

Cotto’s fan club is very big, as well as being internationally acclaimed, and is the only official stocker or Cotto novelty items, such as t-shirts, boxing trunks, autographed boxing gloves and pictures, robes and so on.  He really is a true superstar, who will gladly spend ages kissing babies and shaking hands with prominent figures for a great photo opportunity.  However, even Cotto’s fans admit that he can be a bit of drama queen, and it is felt by those who follow him that a rest of at least 16 months will be well deserved, to rebuild his strength and his mental abilities.

This really does mark the difference between the two fighters: one is the underdog, favoured by those who like to stick up for those who get picked on, the other being Mister Popular, favoured by all those who go for looks and exterior composure.  Which one you prefer is, of course, up to you.  Miguel Cotto is very likeable, has a good record (both in boxing and in personal life) and is generally a safe bet and likeable figure.  Margarito, on the other hand, can be conceived as a cheater but then doesn’t everybody deserve a second chance?

Why Men Like Boxing!

The 12th of November 2011, marks the day of the WBO Boxing Welterweight World Championship between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez that will be taking place in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.  In the wake of this much anticipated fight, you may wonder why men enjoy boxing particularly since many people see it as nothing else than a brutal fight of blood and gore.

Men, however, will tell you that boxing is a sport of discipline and mental strength as well as physical strength, and they do have a point.  Training for boxing is incredibly rigorous and you do need an incredible amount of discipline in order to prepare yourself for a boxing match, particularly one of such proportions as the Welterweight World Championship.

Also, the ability to withstand the punches that will be thrown about in that ring without giving up after the first punch to the face requires almost subhuman mental strength.

Of course, the amount of physical strength a boxer needs is phenomenal, and this sort of strength is not born overnight.  It takes years of training and grueling hours in the ring, boxing against small bags and little bags, sparring, jumping rope, running and much, much more.  Of course, being able to box means you need to have incredibly fast reflexes, which is another thing you will need hours and hours of training for.

In essence, if you ask a man why they enjoy boxing, they will tell you that it is because it is a display of human strength and courage; they will not focus on the underlying barbarity in pummeling your opponent down to the ground, as that is not what drives the sport.  Of course, the excitement of this part adds to the overall enjoyment of the sport, but what most men see is the hard work that has gone into preparing for a match.

We suggest that you watch Pacquiao and Marquez live online and you will see why men love boxing!

Cheap Beer and Prohibition in History

No one would ever believe that beer is one of the oldest recipes created. With historical links back to the Egyptians and 5000, B.C. The first beer recipe then called for pomegranates, herbs and dates. The early Egyptians used their version of beer for ceremonial and religious purposes. The pharaoh acted as the brew master creating brewing schedules and managing distribution.

Fast forward to the first colonists of the “New World”. It was the Pilgrims who journaled about landing on Plymouth Rock and being out of beer and needing to make more. It’s been widely documented that one of the first permanent structures at Plymouth Rock was in fact a brewery. By 1810, New York had more than 42 breweries alone. By the 1900s, millions of immigrants new to America drove beer production to an all time high.

And then came the great prohibition which occurred between 1920 to 1933. It became illegal to manufacture, transport, import, export and sell alcoholic beverages. Congress had passed the Volstead Act to enforce prohibition, but many local states were disinterested in enforcing the law. This left an understaffed federal government to go after bootleggers and mobsters alike who had gotten into the moonshine business of manufacturing and selling their own version of cheap beer.

By 1933, the US was going through the great depression. It was the conservative Democrats and Catholics who championed the cause to repeal the Volstead Prohibition act to bring in greater amounts of tax revenue and discourage organize crime activity which soared as a result of alcohol production and sales going underground. At the end of prohibition, cheap liquor became the norm. But not, without dire consequences to the brewing industry. Many breweries during prohibition survived by manufacturing cream soda, ice cream and other sugar malt extracts. After prohibition beers became ever popular, including Budweiser and Schlitz whose sales grew exponentially after the ban was overturned on alcohol production.

Fly Fishing with your Buddies

Fishing seems to be a sport that is enjoyed more by men than women.   Guys get together and head out to sea for a day of deep sea fishing and rarely do you see a wife or girlfriend along for the ride.  If these guys don’t live near the ocean, they might head to a near by river for fly fishing for the afternoon.

It is not uncommon to see a group of guy pitching tents along the river’s edge for a few days away from work to relax and enjoy some fishing with their buddies.   In the evening they will cook the fish they have caught over a roaring fire and knock back a few beers.

To make a trip like this enjoyable and comfortable, they will all have the right camping equipment but most of all, they will all have the right sleeping bags for the night time temperature.  Sleeping bags are not all created the same.  They are graded for temperatures so be sure to check for that while shopping.  From cotton sleeping bags to those filled with down feathers, you can find just what you need when you shop online for camping needs.

Jasmine Birtles of MoneyMagpie presents  her Financial Expert interview – First direct interviews financial expert Jasmine Birtles for its ‘Colourful Lives’ report

To mark its 21st birthday, first direct commissioned the Future Foundation to explore and champion the unique individuals who make Britain great.  The resulting ‘Colourful Lives’ report is a celebration of all that’s individual, quirky and just plain eccentric.

first direct Head of Marketing, Paul Say, said: “The research shows Brits are proud of their nation, with traditional customs and festivals such as cheese rolling, bog snorkelling and toe wrestling cited by 57 per cent as the main reason Britain is so eccentric. One in every 100 people in the UK is officially registered as a Jedi Knight – a statistic which proves Brits aren’t afraid to be irreverent even about such routine things as the Census.

“It’s because our customers are so colourful that first direct does banking in black and white. We wanted to get under the skin of these interesting characters to find out just what makes them tick.”

The next biggest driver of our intrinsic eccentricity is the class system (35 per cent) while a third (32 per cent) say it’s because Britain is not truly European. A quarter (24 per cent) think being an island fosters quirky characters and one in ten (20 per cent) credit the monarchy. Just three per cent associate wealth with eccentricity in modern society.

When it comes to breaking away from the norm, two thirds (62.5 per cent) of us believe Britain is the most free-spirited, creative and non-conformist nation of the top five Western European countries*.

The research predicts a continued trend of appreciating the peculiar and irreverent. Brits will increasingly be attracted to people and brands that are not afraid to express themselves in a personable, quirky manner – a manner which reflects the colourful nature and the intrinsically alternative mindset of contemporary Britain

The internet has become a place where people looking to buy and sell a range of items online but if you are looking to sell truck parts of your truck itself, then it can be a place to find a buyer much easier than advertising elsewhere for a higher price.

There are a huge range of websites on the internet in every country that will let you buy and sell truck parts as well as find the ideal truck for your family or to sell your truck for an upgraded vehicle or maybe to downgrade to save costs.

Truck equipment itself is a huge market with thousands of people each day going online to a number of vehicle websites to either buy direct or to place a bid if the website happens to be an auction website. Being able to view the images associated with the truck parts for sale or place images when selling items is a huge benefit than looking through small images in a magazine or just none at all.

If you want to sell truck parts of your actual vehicle then the internet allows you to custom design your page on many websites to be able to pass on any information you wish to a possible buyer. With the option to add more than one image, you can give a full description in both words and images of the details required when someone is looking to buy from you.

Heating for the winter

We are fast approaching the holiday season, and that also means that we’re approaching the colder times of the year. It’s in these times that we start questioning our heating systems and probably start thinking about changing them. The issue of efficient heating is one that is becoming more important in recent years as the prices of oil and electricity started going up, and what was an inexpensive way to heat up your house now became more costly to the family budget.

Heating your house efficiently is always a two part thing, with two aspects that cannot be ignored. There’s the way you heat your house and the way heat is kept in your house. Because you can have the most powerful heating system and it won’t work anything close to maximum capacity if your house isn’t well insulated. Just like a well insulated house won’t easily be warmed if all you have is a small electric heater for the whole house. So, looking at it with an inquisitive eye, how can we find out what the best heating option is? The truth is, there is no ultimate heating system out there. What there is is the most adequate heating system for your house and specific rooms inside your house.
